SURROUNDED
Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them. (Luke 2:9 NLT)
Now What? Christ is born our lives, now what do we do? I believe this is the question that goes through mind of everyone who comes to know the Lord. These shepherds were out guarding their flocks when they got God’s message. His glory surrounded them and scripture says that they were terribly frightened, but the angel reassured them and told them not to be afraid.
Change is always a little frightening. When we finally realize that we have been living without Christ we are very aware that some things should change. What we do not realize however is that the most important change has already taken place. Now, if we will allow the Lord to guide us, He will bring everything into alignment.
When the angel came to the shepherds, he was telling them that it was a done deal. The baby Jesus was the Messiah. To some He looked like an ordinary baby. Certainly some people could be in His presence and not be affected. For others His presence was life changing. Elizabeth was affected while Jesus was still in the womb. Simeon (vs. 25) was well aware of who He was and knew that he could die now because he had seen the Messiah.
Truly, the glory of the Lord is everywhere, and wise people seek Him. We have the promise from God that when we seek Him we will find Him. So the answer to the big question of now what is simply to seek and trust the Lord. Don’t be afraid of the changes that He will bring in your life. Trust Him and simply allow Him to do what He does so well.
Psalm 23 says that the Lord is my Shepherd. That makes us His responsibility. He leads us beside still waters. So when things are crazy, trust Him to bring the peace. Trust Him to take you to the place of stillness.
He makes us lie down in green pastures. The truth is that sometimes we do not recognize what is best, but He will keep us there until we see how good it is. He restores our soul. Have you ever felt hopeless and empty? More than likely the answer to that is yes. What do you do when you feel that way? Do you struggle in your own strength or do you lay it out before God. I was thinking about this and I felt such a burden for those who try to do it on their own because the do not know Christ. At the same time I felt so grateful and relieved that I knew I could nothing without Him. Sometimes I try, but I don’t last long!
As we draw to a close of one year and head into another, I pray that we will be more and more aware that Christ is a complete package and all that He has promised is a done deal the day He enters our lives. Let’s make room for Him to maneuver in our hearts and lives.
