Walk in the light as He is in the light. Trust the Light. Be the light. We can easily see that darkness is in bountiful supply all around. The truth is, darkness has been on display since the garden fiasco between Eve and the devil. People try to deny darkness. We all are guilty of ignoring it from time to time or simply shaking our heads trying to laugh it off, but darkness is real and surrounds us daily.

When I read this verse from Daniel, it struck me a good word to start a new year with. We should all keep in mind that we are surrounded by God’s light. He never leaves or forsakes us. He is always drawing us. There is not one person who He has forgotten or that He will ever forsake. As a recent song stated, there is no shadow He will not light up or mountain He will not climb up coming after me. There is no wall He will not kick down or lie He will not tear down. Coming after me.

God has righteousness enough for all. God has never failed, and He never will. He will never forget you or the good plans He has for you. We simply need to step into His truth.

Daniel was a man. He loved God. He prayed. He did his job. He was hated for doing it even by people whose lives he saved! The current king had a dream that scared him, so he wanted someone to tell him what the dream was and what it meant. He was about to kill all the wisemen because no one could tell him what he wanted. Imagine that! Daniel prayed and God revealed the dream and the meaning, and this was Daniel’s response.

God knows what is hidden in darkness! We do not know all that is hidden in darkness, but we do know enough to stay away from it. We do know that we should avoid it. We do know that darkness represents danger. We do not need to fear it, because we know where the light is!

We live in this world. We work in this world. We interact with this world. Jesus said that we in fact are the light of the world. As we walk along, we are light on display. Every moment of everyday we need to be aware of this.

My desire for a new year is to be aware of myself. To check my attitude, my words, and even my thoughts! Perhaps not in that order. As we all know, strange things grow from thoughts! The idea is to adjust. We need not condemn ourselves or give up because of failure. The idea is to learn and turn.

Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus and be alert to opportunities to reflect Him. In the meantime, we can do whatever we do as unto the Lord. Last week as a car sped around me and just about took off my bumper cutting in. There was no other traffic coming so there was no reason for it. I immediately began trying to figure out why. I decided to go with my granddaughter’s favorite response now; “there is no why.” My reasoning was not going to help. I prayed for them instead.
