TAKE CHARGE
You put us in charge of everything you made, giving us authority over all things(Ps. 8:6 NLT)
There are some decisions that we must make in order to walk with God in all the fullness that He intended. They will seem quite elementary when I mention them, and yet if we are honest we will have to say that few of us can honestly say that we have no problems in this area. First of all, we must put what God says above all else in life. In other words, we better believe that His word is true, and base our decisions in life on it.
That said, let us go on. It has been my observation, both on a personal level and from watching others, that we like to have things our way. At the same time would like God to do everything for us that we want Him to, while He lets us do what ever we want. But then if things do not go well, we like to say that He is responsible because it was His will all along. Are you still following me?
It seems we want Him to handle everything, as well as taking the blame for our failure to do what we are supposed to. Add to that, the fact that we really do not care to yield ourselves to Him completely. I know, this is sounding complicated. So now I will try and make some sense of it.
It boils down to this. We want things our way, but we do not want to give ourselves completely over to His ways in order to have our way. So when we go ahead and do our own thing anyway, we have a tendency to say that God led us into that so that we would learn a lesson, though we are not exactly sure what the lesson was. Is this clearing it up a bit. We want God to make all our decisions, as long as we like what He decides.
This verse in Psalms tells me that I better wake up and take charge. God has given me authority over everything, including myself. He who dwells in me, is in fact able to do all things that I will by faith release Him to do. If I believe His word, and I do, then I better believe that I have some responsibility in this kingdom of God. It is because we have not taken charge as God has given us authority to do that many are sick, and falling away. If we are spiritually weak, then we are going to be weak everywhere else.
God gave us authority and empowered us so that we could be in charge. He gave us a book full of promises to base our faith on. I know some people cringe when we speak of claiming the promises of God, but we are challenged in His word to lay hold of His promises. It is our responsibility. If we want God to have control, we have to give it to Him by taking charge. When we act in faith, we give Him a basis for His action on our behalf. We entered into a covenant with Him and we need to take charge of our part. Jesus came to earth to show us how to do that. The sooner we do it His way, the sooner we see results. Amen! So I asked myself and now I ask you. Who is in charge? Are you ready to take charge according to the authority that God has given you?
