TAKE TIME

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

I was reminded of an old song early this morning that said, “Take time to be Holy. Speak oft with the Lord. Abide in Him only and trust in His word.” This thought came to me as I was thinking of how thankful I am to be forgiven and also for all that we are given. I think many stop at the knowledge of forgiveness.
The danger of stopping there is that we forget to remain thankful. If we lose sight of all that we are given then we do not see the table the Lord has set before us. We lose hope when things look hopeless we have no expectation in the promises that God has made.
God wants us to take time to consider His goodness. This is where seasons of refreshing come from. Jesus often drew away to be with our Father. He told the disciples after visiting with the woman at the well that He had food they did not know about. In that case he was nourished as He shared the good news. God will get His rest to us if we will watch for it.
Like most of us, I like to do my devotions. I need to get them done. Today I was doing just that and I had to take a break and go to God. As I went to God, I found myself considering everything we talked about in way that I could best relay it to others. I have a responsibility to share life with others, but I wanted to stop that thinking and just be with God. It took time, but I got there!
I had to get away from thinking and just be with Him. He is always a good place to be. The thing is, we can make time for a lot of things. We take time even for things that we do not really want to take time for. So why would we ever think it is too much to take time for God. It does not have to be a lot of time. If we take a little time a lot of times, it will add up. Sometimes we need to go ahead a take a lot of time. No matter how much time we take it will be time well spent.
Staying aware of all we have been given helps us to take time to be with God. Time together does not have to be in some deep prayer. We do not need to be asking or telling or getting some great revelation; we just need to be in Him, with Him, for our mutual pleasure. Yes, it pleases God when we take time to be with Him.
It is easy to look up. It is easy to say thank you Lord. It is easy to praise. It is easy to bow down. It is easy to just stop. I can feel God’s amen to those last few words.
It was a wonderful refreshing time with God. I can’t say that He said much and neither did I. I did feel for time like just curling up in a fetal position and stay right there without a care. I felt like I was being cuddled. I felt His rest. It is good to feel God. It is time well spent. He has given us rest. We can step into it. His rest is one of a multitude of things He has given us. Take time to be with God and be thankful.
