TAKE YOUR PLACE

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us in the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. (Colossians 1:13-14 NLT)

When I was a kid playing baseball, one of the things we learned were the positions on the field. You had to learn the positions so you could take the right spot when you went out to play. It was always an important time when the coach was telling us who was playing and where they were playing. Once the directions were completed we were told to run out and take our place on the field. Of course in the early stages, not everyone got their places right and not everyone got the place they preferred. Still, we had to know our position before we could take our place.
We are told in scripture that we have been made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Consequently, we have a position; we need only to take our place. We are also told that we have been transferred from the power of darkness into the kingdom of His dear son. We have been seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus. So our position is clear and so is our place. We need only to take it.
When we believe, we have right standing because of Him. We do not stand perfect in our actions, but in our position in Him. If I was the second basemen, I remained the second basemen because the coach said I was playing second base.
When I was growing up, I was my father’s son whether I was good or bad. I truly desired to please him and because of that I tried to do the things that did not please him where he would not see or know. Even when they did find out, I was still his son. When I came to Christ, I became a better son. Christ made me a better everything.
Jesus secured our right standing. In Him, we become what He says we already are. We simply need to stay close.
Without Christ, we are still subject to the power of darkness and we know there is power there. Jesus removes the power darkness has over us and puts us in a position of light. We now have the power to take our place. Abiding in Christ keeps our eyes open to the truth and reminds us of our position. Like a coach from the sidelines directing his players to the right position the Holy Spirit directs us.
If you call the airlines and make a reservation for a trip, you are assigned a seat. All you need to do is take your ticket, get on the plane, and take your place and you will take your trip.
Take your place in Christ. Trust Him. Abide in Him. You will become who you already are in Him.
