TAKING CHARGE
You, however, must tell everyone how to live in a way that agrees with the true teaching. (Titus 2:1 ERV)
God is not in charge, but He will take charge. This was a thought that entered my mind as I was praying. If we will believe it, He left us in charge of putting Him in charge! When we believe, we ask, we seek, and we knock. When we are in need we come to the source of supply. God has put us in charge of showing the way to live and have life.
If you have experienced the fullness of the presence of God, then you have also realized how empty you were without Him. The challenge then is to stay full. Recently a wave of thought came over me that suggested how much easier it would be to just kick back and not be so determined to grow closer to God. It was the strangest thing and it came with a download of ways to do it accompanied by good reasons that I should. If you remember the Star Wars movies and the way that they would use the force to make suggestions and the people followed the actions, this was sort of what it was like. However, along with that suggestion came a feeling of such emptiness that I could hardly stand it.
This also gave a realization of what must happen to people who run the race for a time and then sit down along the way. In the natural, if I am busy, I can go for long periods of time with no need for food. I really do not notice the time. It is important that we do not ignore our need for the bread of life.
It occurred to me that a car will run just as well on an eighth of tank of fuel as it will on a full tank. I can tell you that there were many times when I traveled a lot that I passed one too many gas stations thinking I had enough to get to the next place. Sometimes I arrived as the engine quit, other times the engine quit first. Besides the fact that I had walk to get fuel, there are also other complications that can come from running the tank dry, but suffice is to say it is not the best way to go.
Well, with this in mind, consider your spiritual life. How easy is it to pass the station? Are you easily convinced that you are just fine? Do you have too much to do to take a couple hours and go and fellowship? Does it matter if you are where God called you to be or will any little moment of prayer anywhere be enough? Have you ever found yourself in a predicament and your spiritual tank was empty. I think empty tanks wonder how God let this happen! Empty tanks look for a lot of places to put the blame.
Whether our tank is full or empty, it is up to us to take charge. We can take charge by heeding the warnings of the Word of God and remaining built up and on guard, or we can take charge by recognizing the level of our tank and filling up and staying full.
We need to live in a way that agrees with God’s true teaching. When we do, we can then help others with a full tank. We all prefer the fullness of God, so let’s guard against the temptation to save time by passing up when it is time to fill up. Now is the time!
