TAKING THE LAND

A huge crowd took palm branches and went down the road to meet Him. They shouted, "Praise God! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!" (John 12:13 NLT)

When I try to come up with present day picture of this scene, I see things like football players waiting in the tunnel to be announced for the Super Bowl. They are ready to go out and win. There is a battle between them and victory, but they are confident. When Jesus was coming into the city it was exciting. He knew there was trouble ahead but He was confident of victory. Let me tell you that there will always be trouble ahead but in Christ you can look forward to victory.

This is much like when Israel was about to go into the Promised Land. God told Joshua that He was giving them the land and so they crossed the Jordan on dry ground. What a victory that was. Then God told them to go and take the city of Jericho. You know the story of how they were to march around the city and then shout and the walls would come down. They were supposed to destroy everything and give all the spoils to God. Everything went just as God said, except one person failed to follow the rules and kept some of the treasure. Because of that, they lost the next battle that they should have won easily. When Joshua asked why, God told him it was because of sin. Sin will always mess with our victory.

Jesus had the victory before he ever went into the city, but something had to be done about our sin. The only thing that could take care of that was His blood. He had to die for our sins. He paid a great price so that we would not have to pay ourselves. But there is always a cost until we get in line with what God wants.

Once Israel dealt with sin in the camp they went and got a victory. Victory is so sweet but don’t let down your guard. As soon as Israel won, everyone around them planned to try and destroy them. Jesus gives you victory you can be sure of that, but you can also be sure that the enemy wants to destroy you. That is why we must stay close to our Lord and keep our hearts and minds on Him. This is a good time to seal your victory. Deal with what you need to deal with and celebrate with Jesus.

Let this be your week of triumphal entry into a new place with God. Ask Him to take you deeper into His will. Ask Him to show you anything that is hindering you from total victory. Expect Him to show you the way to greater and more wonderful places with Him. Be just as sure as Jesus was that God could never fail you.
