TAPPING GRACE

And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection and great grace was upon them all. Nor was there anyone among them who lacked. (Acts 4:33-34a NKJ)

It is one thing to get information on something, but it is quite another to actually tap into it. It has never been a secret that my life before coming into the family of God was far outside of His kingdom. Consequently, many illustrations that God gives me are from the same place! I say that because the first thought that came to my mind after God spoke to me about tapping into the Kingdom of God was the idea of tapping a keg. I apologize to anyone who may be offended by this, but if you bear with me it may make a lot of sense to you.

You see, when it came to tapping a keg it was very important that it be done right. If it was not done right, it stood to ruin the whole party! Since the keg itself was the source of everyone’s “good time”, it was also important that it be handled properly before-hand so that the contents were in the right condition for tapping. Then when it came time to tap it, you wanted to make sure that the person who did it knew what they were doing. There have been many occasions when someone tried who did not know what they were doing and as a result, a good portion of the contents ended up wasted.

I have no doubt that many people already can see where we are headed with this illustration. You see, the grace of God represents the favor of God. The favor of God flows forth from the Word of God. Consequently we need to properly handle the word of God if we are going to tap into it and achieve the intended results.

In the same way that we never wanted to mishandle a keg before tapping it, we cannot neglect or misuse the word and ways of God and then expect it to just flow perfectly for us. Without realizing it, we are often guilty of sabotaging our own celebration, because we do not pay attention to the instructions that God has given us. Then we compound the problem by blaming God for our circumstances. Settle it in your heart that God always delivers a perfect word in perfect condition. If we tap it properly, it will flow like a river in and through our lives.

One thing that happened with these people was they realized that everything they had came by the favor of God and therefore they wanted to share it. Consequently, if someone had a need, it was met by someone who had a lot. This no doubt caused God to open the windows of heaven for them all. These people tapped grace the way God intended. However, if you take a look at Acts chapter five you will see a picture of a mishandled keg and ruined party.

Finally, understand that the devil will do everything he can to keep us from tapping into the great grace of God, we do not need to help him in his efforts. Fight the good fight of faith. Handle the Word of God as the treasure it is and tap into the Life God has planned for you. Enjoy God’s great favor.
