TELL ALL
Upon arriving in Antioch, they called the church together and reported about their trip, telling all that God had done and how He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles too.(Acts 14:27)
What do you talk about when you are together with other people? As I read this, God impressed on my heart the importance of speaking of the things He has done around both believers and non-believers. The most important reason being that it brings glory to God and pleases Him. Telling of His marvelous works builds up the very atmosphere around you and of the Spirit of God within you.
Too often we get caught in the trap of rehearsing what the devil is doing to us rather than what God is doing for us. Oh we may not say the devil did this or that, but we are blinded to the good things of God because we are focused on the problems around us. This is why it is important to talk about what God is doing. Paul would speak of shipwrecks, stonings and etc. but only as preliminary information so he could tell of the great thing God did to overcome it. The disciples always ended their accounts with God’s victory. The Bible ends with the account of the end times and, “Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.” Yes, if we are going to talk we need to be sure to tell the whole story. You may be down right now, but you will rise again. There will be troubles, but Jesus will triumph.
Another important aspect of telling concerns our testimony. God has done so many things in each of our lives. He has done more than we really know, but what we do know must be available for the Holy Spirit to use to help others. There are certainly things in all of our testimonies that we prefer not be shared publicly, but even then they must be available. We never know what God has arranged.
Personally I have found as I am sure you have, that God uses our lives to help specific people. I have found myself in situations where God would have me share things that I would have never remembered, let alone considered sharing, but suddenly God is telling me to share something that will help the other person. Pride has to go out the door at that point. Suddenly we become very vulnerable as we are called on to share something that God has forgiven and forgotten and yet for the sake of another one that He loves and wants to help it becomes a testimony of His greatness.
Let’s be honest, there are things that God has done for us all that we would really prefer to leave in the sea of forgetfulness. I am sure Paul would have liked to forget the awful things he did to Christians or that Peter would have liked to erase his denial of Jesus. Think about it, is there anything that you would with hold concerning the great things God has done for you? Isn’t it amazing to think that things we are now ashamed of, God can use as deliverance for someone else. Be prepared when God calls for all.
