TEMPTATION
But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so you will not give in to it. (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT)
So often we hear people use this verse in a way that implies that God piles on problems but that He won’t pile on more than we can bear. It does not even say that God watches and things pile up and waits until we are almost at the breaking point before He does anything. It says that temptations come, but that God keep them from becoming to strong for us to stand. In other words, He will strengthen us if we will go to Him for strength. Even if we don’t go to Him, He will still show us a way out so we don’t give in. Unfortunately, we may not always follow the way He shows us but the truth is there was a way to avoid the fall.
Following the lead of Lord is the best way to perfection. Recognizing our weakness and places where we are most likely to fail gives us an awareness of our need to turn to Him. When we are faithful to do these things, we put ourselves in the place of the blessing. In other words, God rewards obedience. He said that if we would do the things He said blessings would run after us and overtake us.
Perfection is something to be desired because it was something that God promised us. Resisting temptation and defeating the enemy at his game is the path to the perfection that God has said we would achieve. However, if we get the idea that God piles things on us to see if we will break, how in the world will be feel free to go to Him and expect Him to stop what we think He started in the first place?
Let’s remember that God has good plans for us. He is the one working to perfect us. He knows that this world offers enough tribulation. He does not need to add to it. He knows that we are weak and that He is strong. So He says when things pile up it is not God piling them up. Rather, it is God making the path through the piles. He is motioning and telling us to follow Him. So let’s follow Him.
Let’s believe that perfection is probable because God has said so. Let’s believe that there is no temptation that is too great for us to overcome. Let’s believe that in the midst of every temptation God is way ahead of us making the way to overcome. So if we are aware of those areas that we are most susceptible to failure we will be more likely for success when they come. We come to recognize those things by measuring ourselves according to the word of God. There is victory in Jesus over every trial and temptation. These trials and temptations come from the enemy who wants to destroy us, but the path to victory and perfection comes from God. Let’s follow Him.
