TESTING
For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night.(Psalm 90:4 NKJ)
Well, we safely entered a new Millennium, but now what?! Whether people over prepared, under prepared, or just did not care about Y2K, all received the same results. Now there will be discussions for a long time about whether it was really anything to be concerned about or was it just a great way for some folks to make a lot of money. Many Christians who had a word from God about what a mess it was going to be, will now need to rethink. The technical people will declare it was their wisdom that avoided the tragedy, and the prayer warriors will say it was their prayers. No matter what, it is time to thank the Lord, for all good and perfect gifts come from God, and He is merciful and will not ignore the prayers of His people. So in everything, we just praise the Lord.
Now let’s look at another perspective. Much of the world held its’ breath to see what would happen when we started over with zeros. As each time zone made the switch there were cheers as well as sighs of relief. There were people gloating and saying I knew it would be fine. There were others coming out of underground shelters. Some disappointed that nothing happened and others feeling sheepish that they were even in there. To the one I encourage you not to gloat, and to the other I encourage you not to feel bad. There is nothing wrong with being prepared, nor is there anything wrong with having faith that all would be well. Once again, I say that in this instance the results were the same for everyone. We made it, and we have another day to go on.
There is a day that will come however, when the results will not be the same for everyone. One day, the Lord will return and only those who know Him will be rejoicing. Others will be hiding in caves but it will do them no good. Could we possibly look at this most recent New Year celebration as a test and consider how we did. Are we as prepared for the Lord to return as we were for Y2K? Are we as concerned about midnight each day, as we were about this midnight? We really should be thankful each day for the opportunity to live and move an have our being. We really should live in such a way so that we know if the Lord returns it will be ok.
People did checks on their computers then still hoped that all would be right. They really could not be sure until the big moment. I am so glad that we don’t have to wait for the Lord to come to be sure. I am glad that we can know that when He returns we will be fine. There are many people who prepared for Y2K, that are not at all prepared for the day of the Lord. There are many Christians who know what they should be doing to prepare for the Lord, but they are not doing it. People who owned computers wanted to be sure that their computer survived.(I know I did anyway) People who did not own or understand computers, still wanted everything to be ok in the morning.
This is sort of how it is with the Lord. People want eternity to be ok. Christians want to be pleasing to God. Everything can be ok, and we can please the Lord. But we need to take the necessary steps. First, no one will see the Lord without salvation, and salvation comes only through Jesus Christ. Then, we must be hearers as well as doers of the Word of God. We can not just ignore the warnings and the instructions. For when the Lord returns, only those who are prepared will be rejoicing. It is up to those who are prepared to lead others into the same preparedness. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we lived in a celebration of the return of the Lord. If we cheered at the arrival of each new day and thanked God for opportunity to live at end of it. Well, I don’t know about you all, but I have some work to do. Happy New Year!
