THANK YOU LORD

Oh give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name. Make His deeds known among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! (1 Chronicles 16:8 NKJ)

Truly, it is good to give thanks to the Lord and praise His name. Unfortunately there are so many who have no idea why they should give thanks. It is not until people truly know the Lord that they can begin to understand just how fortunate we all are. The whole world would be caught up in gratitude to God if they understood that it is only by His grace and mercy that this world holds together. Jesus pointed out that we were blessed if we had understanding of the good news of the Kingdom of God.

And so, here we are in beginnings of a New Year and think it fitting that we consider just how blessed we are and in so doing stir up our deepest sense of gratitude for our wonderful Lord. If we will do this, others will see and desire to understand. Then we can tell them why we have such hope and gratitude.

Personally, the need to give thanks to the Lord has hit me a like speeding training. The fact that Jesus would die for me when only He could see any reason at all to do so. And of course it was not just for me, it was for all of humanity. He did not give His life because we were good enough; He did it because we could never be good enough. He gave us an opportunity when we certainly did not deserve it.

Considering this, how can we rest until everyone has the opportunity to know Him? And lest we forget, God gave each of us many opportunities. Some more than others perhaps, and therefore those are forgiven much, love much. David first wrote this psalm as the ark was returned to Jerusalem. You may remember that the first time David tried to do this, he did it wrong. Isn’t it nice to know that we are all works in progress and that when we don’t get it perfect God gives us still another opportunity?

No matter what, we should give thanks to God. No matter where we are or what we have done we can call upon His name. We should never hesitate to make His deeds known to anyone who will listen. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.

We have so much to be thankful for. How long has it been since you considered how good God has been to you. How long has it been since you just sat and thanked Him for everything in your life. After all, all good and perfect gifts come from Him. The fact that you are still standing after a difficult time is a great reason to give Him thanks.

I am just amazed at His goodness. I didn’t deserve one good thing that the Lord has done for me. I am so thankful that it was not and never will be based on what I deserve, but rather on what Jesus promised and sealed with His own blood. The closer we get, the more grateful we should be. May our hearts be stirred to give continual thanks unto God.
