THANKFUL

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. (John 17:17 NKJ)

Asked to expound upon a favorite verse of scripture, my first thought was, “Just one!” Just as quickly as I wondered, the Holy Spirit brought this scripture to my mind. I will grant you that there are many verses that sound more comforting or appear to promise greater things, but I quickly understood the Holy Spirit’s reason for pointing me to this one.

You see this verse and others similar to it are the very foundation that the rest are built upon. We must without question believe that God’s word is truth and the source of all that is true. If we do not believe this, then it makes no difference what favorite scripture we may have, because it is little more than a nice bunch of words that we like to repeat. Just saying them will do us little good if we don’t really believe they are true and see them as the very source of our lives.

However, when we are sold out on the truth of His word, it is in fact a powerful force that will transform our lives. Truth then becomes the supplier all of our needs according to His riches in glory because it is in fact the living word. The word was in the beginning with God and the word was God and the word became flesh (Jesus) and dwelt among us. This very word gives eternal life to those that believe it.

This word is in fact life to them that find it and health to all flesh. This word heals, delivers, provides, protects, directs, and reveals the very One who spoke it into existence. This word is able to change our lives in a moment. It is better than any medicine, and it improves everything that it is applied to. There is no part of our life that God has not provided for in this living word. That is the truth whether we believe it or not, but believing it puts it to work for our benefit.

I am thankful that God’s truth is always right. This truth is not cloudy nor is it difficult to comprehend. Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit to interpret it and if we will allow Him to do it, we will know the truth and the truth will make us free. Knowing that His word is true settles the fact that He has not changed His mind about things. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. God does not change His word to fit the times.

For instance, He has not changed His mind about murder. Abortion is not a choice, it is murder. God has not changed his mind about adultery, fornication, or pornography; even if society thinks we should be more open minded! God has not changed His moral standards to appease the lusts of societies flesh. No, homosexuality is not an alternate lifestyle. Finally, the word tells us that evil is what tears a nation apart, but great is the nation whose God is the Lord. All scripture is good and that is the truth. The truth may not be politically correct, but it is “The Truth!” We can be very thankful for that.
