THANKS GIVING-GIVING THANKS

Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. (Hebrews 13:15 NKJ)

Yes, this is Thanksgiving. This is a day that has been set aside as a national Holiday. When it was established it was specifically for the purpose of giving thanks to God for all of His goodness. I am thankful to live in a country that has day set aside to thank God. This day also begins the Christmas season, which reminds us to give thanks for the love of Jesus Christ whose birthday we celebrate on Christmas day.

There are of course those who take exception to the idea of giving glory and thanks to God in this season, but we will just pray for them that they will be blessed with an understanding of the great love of God.

As Christians, we should be the most thankful people on the earth and not just for a day but everyday. In fact, this scripture says we should continually be giving thanks to His name. He is after all, the I am. I remember when I first read that in the Bible I wondered what in the world that could mean when God said tell them that I am sent you.

What God was saying was, “I am all you will ever need.” God is love, peace, and Joy. God is provider, protector, and promoter. He is our defender and He desires and delights in us. He is forever our forgiver. He is everything that we have faith enough to believe Him for. Jesus said, “If you can believe, all things are possible to them that believe.”

The more we know God, the more we will thank Him because we will realize that He is the source of every good and perfect gift. As we know Him better, we realize that He does not do bad things to His children. As we realize just how much He loves us we become confident to come to Him and trust Him.

It is hard for some people to believe that God never fails. Many people have felt like God disappointed them when things did not go just the way they planned. People will even go so far as to say that God caused bad things. Isn’t sad that we could actually think that God delights in our suffering? What parent wants to see their child suffer? God surely doesn’t. We live in a world with lots of evil things going on. That is why Jesus said that when we pray we should ask God to deliver us from evil.

I do not profess to know why bad things happen to good people. I only know that at just the right time God always comes through. He may not keep us from sorrow, but He will comfort us in it. He may not keep us from sickness, but He is still the God that heals. He gives His angels charge over us to help and protect us. If we will concentrate on Him, we will soon understand how we can continually offer praise and thanksgiving to Him. Let’s spend our Thanksgiving giving thanks!
