THAT DAY
Then the Lord will cover the whole city and its meeting places with a thick cloud each day and with a flaming fire each night. God's own glory will be like a huge tent that covers everything. (Is. 4:5 CEV)
God wants us to understand something and that is that without exception, He takes care of His own! We may not always understand it, but we must settle the question of His faithfulness once and for all!
If we wonder where He was on that day when something happened that we did not like, we must know He was there taking care of us. If we wonder about that day in the future when this or that might happen, we must rest in confidence that He will be taking care of His own.
Where was God when Stephan was stoned? He was there taking care of Him. Where was God when Lazarus died? He was taking care of Him. Where was God when Paul was stoned? He was taking care of Him. As we all know, facts are facts, but it is the truth that sets us free. Are we ready to rest in the fact that every day God is watching over us? Today is a day to turn the page on doubt, fear, and everything else that causes us to question God’s faithfulness.
Recently I was using the Bob Seeger song, “Turn the Page”, to minister to my friends in Jail. I was encouraging them to turn the page on the book of their lives and write the rest of the story with a future and a hope and not allow statistics and facts about their future to rob them. As I sang about being on the road and up on the stage and playing star, I had a revelation of just how much that is all of our stories.
We all grow up going down our own road. When we are young we may do what our parents say or we may not, but even if we do, we have own road in mind. Some of us stay on what look like better roads, but we are still headed for our own destination. We are writing the play for our lives and we are in the spot light up on our stage. We are the stars of our own show, so to speak.
Think about it. What and who do we care most about? I told them that when I was on my stage, I may not have been totally useless, depending who they would ask of course, but like all people I cared mostly about me. Be honest, we are all that way in one area or another. Even after we come to know Jesus we still battle the “what about me” war.
Well, there comes a time in our lives when we have the opportunity to turn the page on the old book and begin anew in Christ. Old things can pass away and all things can become new! That is one wonderful day. In that day, we begin to see that even before we knew Him, He was working around our lives. Just knowing that should encourage us for the future.
There is so much that God has for us, but if we do not settle in our hearts once and for all that He does not fail because He cannot fail, we will always be subject to being swayed by facts rather than simply trusting the truth. Remember to always turn the page to the truth that every day is a day when the Lord is watching over you with plans for good and not for evil. God promises, “I always take care of my own!” We can count on Him to cover us like a huge tent.
