THE BEGINNING OF THE END

Welcome! God bless the king who comes in the name of the Lord. (Luke 19:38 ERV)

Hosanna in the highest, Jesus is Lord. Today we celebrate Jesus triumphant entry into the city as he begins the end. He was taking His place as king, only it was not as the people thought. In this week, they will cheer Him and cry for His crucifixion.
As long as He was the way they wanted him to be he could be king, but then when he was arrested it was a different story. Is this the way it is with us? Are we followers when He is doing and being what we want, and not so much when things appear to be going the wrong way.
When we feel like things are going against us, we should remember that it was on the cross that Jesus declared it was finished. It was finished when he rode into town! In the same way, we have the opportunity to be finished when he rides into our lives. Christ in us is our only hope of glory. It is the end of us and the beginning of us. We die and he lives in us and we really start to live.
The joy the people felt as they welcomed Jesus to the city is the joy we feel when we welcome him into our lives. At least it should be! We should rejoice as we are washed in the blood of the lamb. In coming to Jesus, we recognize just how evil we were. Yes we were evil. We had no idea how evil until we saw how good he was and how good he is and will always be.
When we realize that he was so desperate for our love that he would die so we could live, something wonderful happens. At the same time, something else begins to happen. The enemy focuses even more on the destruction of our faith. The minute something goes wrong, we are tempted to give up and run out. Fortunately God does not just throw in the towel. The Holy Spirit offers avenues of escape that lead closer to Jesus.
Jesus put an end to the power of evil over those who love him and desire to live forever with him. We simply need to choose to stand on his promises.
Each day is a new beginning. It is a new opportunity to end the power of darkness and walk in the light. A key ingredient to winning the battle is to keep cheering. Keep praising. Keep rejoicing. Keep laying things at his feet. Keep trusting him.
When you are afraid; put your trust in the Lord. When you are sad; put your trust in the Lord. When you feel like giving up; put your trust in the Lord. That is how you put an end to the wiles of the devil, and supercharge the power of God in your life. Hosanna in the highest. Jesus is Lord!
