THE DOOR OF FAITH
Now when they had come and gathered in the church together, they reported all that God had done with them and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.(Acts 14:27 NKJ)
What exactly is the door of faith? That may seem to be a silly question, but there are all sorts of things to have faith in. Of course we know in this instance that the disciples were referring to only one faith, and that is faith in God through Jesus Christ.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus refers to himself as “the door.” He goes so far as to say that only those who enter through Him will enter the kingdom of God. So then, the door of faith is also the door to the kingdom of God.
Jesus opened the door to God’s presence for everyone. So a person could say that this was as much God opening the doors of their minds to see that the gentiles could walk in as it was opening the eyes of the gentiles to see the open door. We know from scripture that even though the open door was established not everyone was happy about it. In fact the same things go on yet today when someone has a pet doctrine that they are so sure is the only real key to heaven. I am glad that God is the one and only doorkeeper.
The key thing to remember about the door of faith is that it is a door. The Lord has set an open door before us that no man can shut. Entering is a choice. He is most certainly powerful enough to throw us through the door, but He won’t.
Paul said that God had opened the door, but did he say that everyone had gone through? Some did and some did not. Paul had a dilemma with his own people who refused to enter. He went so far as to say that he would go back out if they would enter, but of course that would not help. They had to decide for themselves. In fact, Paul came to the point where he told them he was through with them and he was going to the gentiles.
Do you ever feel like that? Do you get frustrated when people just will not go through that door no matter what you say or do? Well I have a way to overcome that. Don’t look at the people. Look at God. Look at the door. Look at what God has done.
One more thing we all need to consider is what we are doing with door? The door is only the beginning. God never intended that we just hang out by the door. It may that it is so crowded by the door that others think it must be hard to get in! There are lots of people watching after we go through the door to see what happens to us. Keep going through the doors that God opens. It just may be that others will follow just to see what you found that is so good.
