THE EXPECTANCY OF LOVE

"If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him." (John 14:23 NKJ)

Jesus loves us; there is no doubt about that. He also loves the Father. (Vs. 31) He said that if anyone loves Him they will keep His word and as a result the Father will love us and they both will make their home with us. Wow! That is something amazing to consider.

Based on the fact that He loved His Father and His Father loved Him, Jesus expected everything He said to come to pass. I am convinced that it is our love for God that can bring us to this level of expectancy.

Everyone who believes in God acknowledges that God does love them, but I am not certain that we comprehend exactly how deep that love is. Paul said that we all should know how great God’s love is for us. This would indicate to me that the Holy Spirit detected a lack of understanding in this area, so we were given direction to know about it.

Jesus did know and because He had confidence in God’s love for Him, His love and trust grew as well. That is probably why as child He was able to amaze the teachers with his understanding. He made that transition into a deep and loving relationship that He challenges us all to make.

Jesus’ love for God left no room for doubt about anything He said. This was because He said what He heard His Father say. He loved His Father and knew that He would not lie to Him. Of course we all know that God does not lie, but we also have times where we doubt His promises. We say that He has not answered our prayers. We indicate that somehow God has failed us. Could this be because we do not love Him enough to stand even when we are weary?

Jesus’ love for God gave Him enough confidence in God to stand even as He hung on the cross. It is no wonder that He could say with confidence that God would answer all of our prayers and do anything we asked. These were things that He asked His Father to do for us and He loved God so much He could not imagine His Father failing to do even that.

He expected the dead to rise when He prayed. He expected a few loaves and fish to feed thousands. He expected storms to cease and demons to leave. Love builds our expectancy in the promises of God. It moves us from believing that God can do all things to assurance that He will do all things. Love casts aside doubt and fear. Love is not affected by time. Love waits confidently expecting instant response. Love knows that God has heard and answered. Love never fails!
