THE FOG

The Lord talked to Hagar. She began to use a new name for God. She said to Him, "You are God who sees me." (Genesis 16:13 ERV)

Have you ever driven in the fog? It is not usually an enjoyable thing to do. It is even less fun on a motorcycle. Yes, I recently spent nearly two hours in fog that at times was so thick that seeing was next to if not impossible. My attention was on two things; the Lord and the road and in that order. I was praying, praising, and looking for the sun to burn through the fog.

Not once in the whole time did I think the fog would never clear. In brief times over the course of two hours when it did lift a little, I was shouting and thanking God and declaring how great is our God. Then the fog would come back and I was praising and shouting for it to lift.

At one point, a car pulled across in front of me from a side road and it seemed like I was watching a picture of it happening. It was a white car in the fog and there it was. It is hard to explain, but it was like time stopped. I saw it happen and then I moved on. Needless to say this brought even more shouting, singing, and a little dancing (as much as you can do on a motorcycle in the fog that is.)

As I considered all of this there were observations and understandings that came even in the fog and of course once the fog was completely. There is more than you have time to read or I have space for now, but I want to share a couple of thoughts.

First, yes I did pray before taking off and was assured by God that I could do this. There were a couple points where I wondered if He said could but not necessarily that I should. He cleared that up though, and the trip was well worth what I learned!

In the fog I never quit looking forward to it clearing. I knew that it would have to eventually. We need to be this way when it seems we are in the fog or the dark about things. Do not give up. Look forward to God’s solution.

Concerning the incident with the car, God said, “Even when you can’t see; I can.” Never forget that God can see. It may seem at times like God is leading you in a way that you cannot see. You do not have to see as long as you are confident that He can.

The way through the fog is always praise and worshipping God. Let Him know that you trust Him. I have tried to remember when I was praising the loudest. I am not sure if it was it in the fog or if it was when the sun burned through and the fog lifted.

If you feel like you are in the fog, remember it will not last forever. Remember that God can see even if you can’t. Allow God to be your joy and your comfort. Think about Him and give Him praise. You know the Son is coming!
