THE GREATEST GIFT

She will give birth to a son. You will name Him Jesus. Give Him that name because He will save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21 ERV)

Jesus was is and always will be the greatest gift ever given. God gave Him, we can receive Him and we can pass Him on. This makes Jesus the true gift that keeps on giving. Gifts are good things. Enjoy them. Enjoy giving them and receiving them; just don’t forget the perfect gift. His name is Jesus.

I went to bed last night thinking of the greatest gift and of how simple it is to give this gift to anyone and everyone! I thought about simply having confidence in the gift. I mean you may give a gift to one person and they will open it right away. Another person may take the gift home before opening it. I have even had gifts that I stashed away for someone and did not find them till after the time they were to be given.

With that in mind, we can see that the most important thing is that we value the gift and pass it on. So then I have to ask myself what value I put on Jesus. Is He a gift I want to pass on? There is a vast difference between the motivation that says I must get people saved and I must give them this gift. Gifts are for giving. It is the receiver that chooses to enjoy the gift or put it on the shelf. I have received gifts that I liked but have yet to find something to use them for. I still have them for when that time comes however!

Then I had this picture in my mind when I thought about this gift saving people from their sins. I saw it as two crowds that chase us. Scripture tells us that sin is waiting at the door. So sins have been chasing man since the garden. When Jesus came, another crowd came on the scene. Jesus came leading a crowd of blessings. I realize that in my life both of these crowds were active. If you think about it, you too experienced blessings even though you like me, may have been far from God.

Just as the sin crowd has always desired to destroy us, God’s blessing crowd has always longed to save us. I have no idea how many times I had the opportunity to open this great gift. There are several significant times I can look back on and see that someone did give me a present and I didn’t even realize I was carrying it around or that it was stashed away somewhere.

Still, the day did come when I opened the greatest gift and that gift just keeps giving into my life. If I really think about it, every day I have the opportunity to open a new measure of that greatest gift. I can not only open it, but I can give the greatest gift to every single person I see or think about. I can offer that gift to the whole world through prayer. Oh my, what gift.

Jesus is a year round gift. He is an every day gift. He is the greatest gift. Enjoy Him. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year filled with Christ.
