THE HOPE

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. (Eph. 1:18 NKJ)

How long would you work for someone if you found out they only paid after you died? What kind of a question is that? We would not work for them for more than one pay period, and then we would sue to get paid right away. And yet God’s kingdom is mostly presented like term insurance. You die to collect it!

With this in mind, we can see why so many see little or no value in knowing God. We can also see why many who start out seeking the Lord, eventually grow weak and discouraged and often give up. The hope of His calling has been pushed out so far in the future that it is easily overshadowed by the life that is staring in our face right now. God knew this, and that is why He revealed this to Paul so he could pass the message on to all who would believe it. THIS HOPE IS FOR THE PRESENT!

If we will allow the Holy Spirit to stir up our understanding and grasp this present hope, we will no longer be easily discouraged or turned away from the promises of God. We will understand that they are not for the next life, but rather for the here and now when we need them the most and in the end it will be even greater as we dwell forever in His glorious presence.

Over the centuries, there have been those who grasped this truth and they walked with God enjoying all of His promises. A few would grasp what they shared, but those who did not, did their best to quench such outlandish ideas. Isn’t interesting how the story repeats itself? The prophets came revealing God’s plans and they killed them. Jesus came with the glad tidings of the Kingdom of God, and they killed Him. The Apostles continued the word with God confirming it and they killed them. In only stands to reason that the enemy would continue to try and stop the truth.

We should not be like people with no hope. We should not be deceived into believing that the things of God are just pie in the sky things that we really need not expect now. Our hope is not in some god who waivers in his word and is inconsistent in fulfilling his promises. Our God does what He says. Our hope is in one who never breaks a promise, because He cannot break a promise. He does not change His word depending on what else might come up. He is not subject to whims. He does not change His mind.

This is what He wants us to understand. If we will, then we will begin to comprehend what is the greatness of His power toward us. In our world, a lot of what happens takes place because of connections. If you have the right connections you get the best results. Well folks, in Christ we have the connection to the one who created the world. He is above all things, and He can make it happen. It will take some effort to get this understanding running smoothly in our lives, but the results will be worth more that we can begin to comprehend. Are you ready to go for it? God is ready to reveal it and to be glorified as we reveal it to the world.
