THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIM

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him... (Ephesians 1:17 NKJ)

If we are going to function in the Kingdom of God, then we need to know the God of the kingdom. If we are going flow in the move of God, then we need to know the God Who is moving.

We all understand that there is a difference between knowing about someone and really knowing them. For instance, I have a relative who was and is quite famous in some circles. I am certain that there are many people who know a lot more about him statistically than I do. However, my relationship with him is not based on statistics. It is personal. Even though we do not keep in as close of touch as we probably should, I am confident that if I called he would take my call or if I had to leave a message He would return my call as quickly as he could. He would do that because he knows my name and because we have a relationship.

The same is true when it comes to God. He is not as interested in what we know about Him as He is in our knowing Him. Of course as we know Him more we will also have a desire to know more about Him. If all we know is facts about Him, then the things He has done are just things He has done. But when we know Him, we see the things He has done as evidence of what He continues to do. Because He has done the impossible, we expect Him to do the impossible. Because He always kept His promises in the past, we expect Him to continue to keep His promises. We know He takes our calls, because He knows us and we know Him.

I am certain this is why Paul wrote what He wrote. Paul knew all about the law of God, but it was not until He met Jesus on the road that he found life. In an instant, Paul gained more understanding than he had attained his life before. This understanding changed His life forever. This relationship drove him deeper and deeper into the Kingdom of God.

Paul knew that no matter how much he tried to explain it there was no way they would ever get where God wanted them without the Holy Spirit opening their eyes to know God. God wants us to know Him. He wants us to be intimate with Him. He wants us to trust and rely on Him and He wants to prove Himself trustworthy and reliable. He wants to move in our lives and through our lives and reveal Himself to the world He created and loves.

He did this through Christ who was the first fruits. He was and is the example who gave us a sample. He prophesied to His followers that they would do greater things because He went to the Father. Paul said not to despise what is prophesied. (1 Thessalonians 5:20) Was he referring to this? I just know that the more we know Him, the more we can show Him, and reveal the Kingdom of God to a world in need of Him.
