THE LORD GIVES WISDOM
For the Lord gives wisdom: From His mouth come knowledge and understanding(Prov.2:6)
I would say that we all prefer to hear what we like to hear. For instance, people who like to gossip really don’t care so much about the truth, especially if the truth kills a juicy story. Or if someone finds what they consider to be a good deal, they don’t want to hear that it is not such a good deal. A person who is for abortion, doesn’t want to hear what it really is. People who want to live by their own rules, don’t want to hear what God or any other authority has to say. And so the list goes on.
The question we have to ask ourselves, is where are we going to go for wisdom? For anyone who is a follower of Christ there can be only one answer. Me must go to God. Certainly there are people who have Godly wisdom and we can glean from them, but the final confirmation will always come from God. God warned in scripture that there would come a time when people would simply be drawn to what they want to hear.(Read 2 Timothy 4:3&4) We must be wiser than this.
I am amazed, as God moves all over the world, how some people refuse to believe that God would do new things. Of course it really is not so strange, when you consider that they did the same thing when Christ Himself walked the earth. The people would gather in separate camps.
Those who wanted Jesus gone, would gather at the temple, and listen to the religious leaders tell them that God would not do such things. “This man Jesus is an impostor,” they would say. “Don’t follow Him, His works are of the devil.” Does this sound even vaguely familiar to anyone.
On the other hand, there were those who followed Jesus wherever He went and hung on every word. They were filled with wonder and felt life in every part of their being. They loved the miracles and the teaching, even though it had never been that way before. They would respond to the religious leaders with things like, “you believe what you want, all I know is that I was blind and now I can see, or I was lame and now I walk, or in the case of Lazarus, I was dead but now I am alive.
God is so good and so fair, that He has always allowed people to choose which camp they are going to dwell in. The people who followed Jesus, had peace and joy, they had life, even when persecuted! Those who were fighting Him on the other hand, had all the peace of a fighter. They were angry and hateful. They were trying to find a way to prove Him wrong. They were trying to find a way to keep their position. The same way some people are trying to keep their own ways today. Proverbs 2:11 says, understanding will keep you. If we will all simply enter into what God is doing, with a desire to understand rather than undermine, God will show us the way, and a glorious way it will be!!
