THE LORD IS...
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.(Psalm 23:1 NKJ)
Scripture tells us that we must believe that God Is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.(Hebrews 11:6) Psalm 23 simply says the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. I once read a book on the 23rd Psalm that told of all that a shepherd does for his sheep. People who do not know about sheep and those who take care of them miss a lot when it comes to understanding what kind of care God promises to give us.
David was a shepherd, and he knew how he took care of His sheep. He made sure they had water and food. He guarded them to keep them from harm. He made sure that they were kept from storms, and from attacks by wild animals. He knew that if need be, he would lay his very life on the line for his sheep. He also understood that he was far more valuable to God than his sheep were to him. This understanding of God’s care for him saw him through many troublesome times in his life. Are you aware of His care.
David also knew the Lord to be his fortress and His refuge. He knew the Lord was his strong tower and that he could run to Him and be safe. Do you see the Lord as your refuge? Do you abide in His shelter and dwell in His secret place? When you find yourself outside of that shelter, do you quickly run back to Him and His safety.
Do you realize like David that God is full of mercy and compassion, and that you can always run to Him? Do you see Him as gracious and slow to anger, or are you afraid that He is mad and has forsaken you and will not have you? He promised that He would never leave or forsake you. So no matter what your circumstances might me, God is right there with you and for you.
There are so many things that the Lord promises to be and to do for us. He promises to heal, to cleans, to protect, to provide, and really, to be our everything. He will in fact, be everything for us that we will allow Him to be. He told me in prayer that He was able to do anything that I would ask. The Holy Spirit then brought to mind the scripture telling me that He can do abundantly above and beyond all that I could hope or imagine. He also said that He would never ask anything of me or anyone else, without empowering them to do it and providing whatever it took to complete it.
I know that these are all basic truths that we have all heard and yet at times they seem to escape us. The Lord really desires that we experience the fullness of who He is. He wants us to know the greatness of His power toward those who believe. He wants us to know what it is like to walk in His strength, filled with His knowledge. This is the only way that we can walk worthy of this high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
If it is truly our desire, we can count on Him to do His part. He is the Great Shepherd!!
