THE OBVIOUS
Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God. (Luke 6:12 NKJV)
What is easy to do, but hard to get around to? What do we know we should do, but we have little confidence in our ability to do it effectively? What frustrates us the most about our personal relationship with God? Why do we have such a hard time doing something so easy? We all know what we are talking about here; we are talking about prayer and praying.
We have been talking for several weeks about standing up, straightening up, focusing, and more, for the express purpose of acceleration in the things of the Kingdom of God. We have been building our understanding of what God wants and learning to expect Him to get His way. We have worked our way all the way around to being hungry to get it done and now it is obvious that prayer is key to making it all work.
Now don’t throw in the towel just because you know you can do anything and everything except pray. You just can’t get that part going. You have tried, but as easy as it sounds it is just too much work and it is not really your gift. We can all think of lots of other reasons why there must be another way, but there isn’t. The reason God has revealed so much to us concerning His Kingdom is so that we will desire it enough to fight through that prayer wall and just do it!
Just think about this. What was it that opened the door to the Kingdom of God for you in the first place? It was a prayer. For some it was simply a cry out of desperation asking God to help. For others it was an official sinner’s prayer prayed at some meeting or after reading a how to get saved tract or book that got the ball rolling. Whether it was a long involved prayer or short cry of desperation, the result was salvation. We all received eternal life with a prayer. Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.
If we began this life with God so simply, it only stands to reason that the same thing that started us would also be instrumental in completing us. Remember that He who began this good work in us is able to complete it. He is able to keep what we commit to Him and we commit things to Him through prayer.
If Jesus needed to pray, we need to pray. Just looking at the results He got should entice and encourage us to pray. The same Spirit that was working in Him is available to us all and in us all if we have asked Him to empower us. Prayer is simply having a heartfelt conversation with our Father in the name of Jesus by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. We ask Him what He wants, and we ask Him for what we want. We pray for others and we pray for ourselves. We pray for His will to be done. Talk to God and get ready for acceleration. It is obvious that He wants us to pray.
