THE ORIGINAL APP STORE
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise. (Hebrews 10:23 NLT)
If you use a phone or tablet you hear about apps all the time. Apps are software designed to perform a specific function directly for the user. Before looking up the actual definition or description of an app, and as I continued to consider “better things”, it occurred to me that the Bible itself is the original app store.
Think about it. Everywhere you look, you are being encouraged to download one app or another. If you have a question about something, someone will say that there is an app for that. I have apps on my phone that I use all the time. You just touch the button and expect it perform.
I don’t need to explain to people who use them how handy they can be or how frustrating they can be when you depend on them and they don’t function properly. Still, they are here and most of us make use of them. I receive offers all the time to get my own app for one thing or another, but I just have not yet taken that step.
So, let’s consider how the Bible is the ultimate app store. Every word of the Bible is true, and at different times a particular word can explode into a new awareness and produce greater life for us. So when we read the Bible if we are looking for answers, encouragement, comfort, or direction; it is there. Even if we are just reading because we think we have to, we can find it coming to life. What do we do when we find that life? Download it! Yes, get that app and keep it for the present and the future. It often frees us from the past as well. That is awesome!
There are no catches when it comes to the Bible. Every app is free. Every app works. The apps never freeze. They continually update and are always ready to spring into action.
I have experienced times with my phone where it was using too much data and battery and discovered that is was an app idling in the back ground stealing resources. Hackers plant bugs that do that do terrible things. The enemy is always trying to wear us down and confuse us and steal our resources. Yes the enemy has his own set of applications and they cost us immensely. But God is greater and we can trust His apps.
If you have ever tried to remove an app that came with your device, you will often get a warning that removing the app can mess up the way other applications operate. This causes us to pause and if we don’t know if it is true or not, we probably cancel till we can find out for sure. We need not worry when it comes to applying the Bible. Search it and apply it. You will not be disappointed.
