THE POWER OF INTIMACY

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. (Acts 1:8 NKJ)

What is the most powerful thing that we receive from God? Well, for some time now I have been on a quest to love God in special way. I don’t really know what that is, so I feel a bit like Abraham going to a place that God would lead him. As time has passed, I have frequently considered the road that I have been on in order to see how things are progressing. As I did this recently the thought; “power of intimacy” rushed through my mind. Then it hit me; that the first and greatest power the Holy Spirit gives us is the ability to know and be intimate with God. Paul said, “That I may know Him.”

Through this power, the more we come to know Him, the more we love Him. We all know that intimacy has creative powers. People create children as a result of intimacy. Passion is a form of intimacy and anything that a person does with passion creates something. People who are passionately evil create evil. So which ever direction we are passionate about, will be the direction of our creativity.

So just look at creation. It was love, because God is love, and His desire to be intimate with man that brought about creation. God formed the worlds because of His desire to love and be love by man. When man separated from God, Gods passion brought about another plan and His desire for intimacy with us went beyond any realm of natural reason when He came and died for us all. That is powerful love for sure.

So when the Holy Spirit comes upon us and we receive the capacity to know, love, and be intimate with God, all the power of God is at our disposal. This intimacy with God releases the powerful fruit of love. Not only can we love God, but we can love with God’s love.

There is nothing as great as creative power. With all the wisdom that God has given man, to my knowledge, no one has found a way to make anything out of nothing. Everything that we make requires the use of things that God already made. Sort of like it says is John 1, there was nothing that was made without Him.

Truly, every good and perfect gift comes from God. He does no evil. Only perverted intimacy brings about evil. The devil is the master of perversion; consequently he does his best to pervert every good thing that God created. Scripture is clear that the lust of the flesh is the counter part of the fruit of the Spirit and the fruit of that perversion is easily seen.

Intimacy with God on the other hand, gives us the capacity to produce the powerful fruit of the spirit. We can love with God’s love, rejoice with God’s joy, partake of God’s peace and produce these things along with all the other fruit at all times. That is a glimpse of the powerful fruit of intimacy with God.
