THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL
It is God's will that your good lives should silence those who foolishly condemn the Gospel without knowing what it can do for them, having never experienced its power.(1 Peter 2:15 TLB)
So far, the Living Bible is the only place I have found that relates this passage of scripture in this way. It reminds me of the passage which speaks of people having a form of godliness but lacking the power. What caught me by the spirit, was the importance of revealing the power of God to the world.
We forget that one of the greatest ways that we can show the power of God is by our lives. We really should consider what the world sees when they see us. Does the world see the joy of the Lord when they look at us? Do they see a person that is more than a conqueror? Are we people of hope and confidence? Or are we more depressed than they are? As Christians, we really should spend our time lifting up the name of the Lord, rather than the way we are struggling. God’s word says that if we submit ourselves totally unto God and simply resist the devil, he will flee from us. That sure beats us always running from him.
In order for us to help others to experience the power of the gospel, it stands to reason that we must first enter into it. We must seek after all that the gospel promises. God said that we should seek Him, and hunger and thirst after Him. We are to call upon Him in our time of need. We are called to trust in Him with all our heart. We are to believe that He hears us, and that we have what we ask when we ask.
This is the beginning of the power of the gospel. No one on this side of heaven except Jesus, has experienced all the truth or the power that God has promised to those who believe. In fact, the more that people come into God’s presence, the more they realize that there is so much more. Even Jesus said there would be more because He went to the Father. God has prepared a table and He invites us to taste and see how good He is. After we have tasted, he wants us advertise for Him.
When we tell people good news, that is what we are doing. We are advertising. McDonald’s may have a billions sold, but Jesus has billions saved. Once we are saved, we need to be sold out for Jesus. Our lives are an advertisement of the power of the gospel. Unfortunately, many people advertise a powerless gospel. People will not desire the power of the gospel unless they can experience it. Some people get so hungry that they go ahead on their own, but they are a minority. God is waiting to display His power to you, so that He can then reveal it through you. You can not tell someone how good the food is at a place if you have never eaten there yourself. God does not expect you to try and give something that you have never received or experienced.
It is true that there are those who have experienced the power of the gospel, and chose not to go on, but this does not change what God desires of us. Let the power of the gospel shine brightly through you. Ask God to pour more and more on you, so that you can pour it out on others.
