THE RIGHT THING
The Lord rewarded me for doing right (Psalm 18:20 NLT)
If you have desired to know God in a deeper way, then you have come to the place where you wonder what God wants of you. We have all wondered what it would take to impress the Lord. We may never use the word impress, but it is what our thinking implies. We want to know what it is that will trip the Lords trigger, so to speak, so that we will not miss the good plans God has for us.
As hard as it is for us to accept, He delights in us because He wants to. There is no way to manipulate God or to impress Him to do more than He already has planned for us. Well what about all the books that people write to tell us how to get closer to God? Well, they are great books that tell what the Author believes worked for them, and they certainly may help you. One thing is for sure it will not hurt to read many testimonies of how people broke through in their relationship with God. In fact, just reading the book shows that your heart is longing for more of God, just as seeking to hear the word taught and preached is also desirable and necessary for our spiritual growth. All these things aid in building our confidence as we travel down the path to a closer relationship with God.
Still it seems that we often come to place where we wonder what must we do next in order to get closer. Maybe if we read the Bible more or pray more, that will do it. There must be some more works that we can do. What is the key? Well, I am sure that there are many, but something struck me today that seemed almost to simple, and yet I am certain that it is truly something that God always responds to. Why am I so certain? I am certain because He tells us many times in His word what He requires of us.
What is this right thing that we can do that God will reward us for? Look at Psalm 18:3. “I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy of my praise.” There you have the answer that God says will always work. Just call! God tells us that when we call He answers.
It is a sure thing that starting out by telling the Lord how much we love Him, and how wonderful He is doesn’t hurt anything. We can be sure that He hears all of that, and we feel better as we do it, but it is the call that triggers the response from heaven. Why is the call so important? The call says we need Him. The call says that we believe He is who He says He is and who we say that He is. The call says that we trust Him to be faithful even when we doubt that we are worthy for Him to have anything to do with us.
So if you want to know what you can do to get closer to God. If you want to know how to please Him most, and receive the most of what He has planned for you. In any and all circumstances if you want to know the right thing to do. A good place to start would be to call on Him. After all, He delights in you just because He is God and He wants to.
