THE RIGHT TIME

Mary responded, "I am the Lord's servant, and I am willing to accept whatever He wants. May everything you have said come true." And the angel left. (Luke 1:38 NLT)

God’s ways and His timing are always perfect and what He says will happen, happens. We have more proof in the word of God than would ever be required for a verdict in court. And yet, some do not and will not believe. May the Lord soften hearts during this season of the celebration of the birth of our savior.

When I consider the message of the angel and the response of this little teenage girl I am so amazed. I know that I have heard things that God has spoken and pondered them in my heart. I have read books that others wrote years ago and seen the truth of them now. In the Bible we see it happening again and again and perhaps we fail to consider the magnitude of it all. Here we have a little girl who says, “okay whatever God says.” But don’t you think she was just pretty amazed when she actually turned up pregnant?

At that point she probably was asking God to do something to help Joseph understand, and of course God did. Joseph’s response was pretty amazing too! As she carried this baby and pondered more and more what the Lord had planned, He kept adding wonderful confirmations. Her Aunt at the sound of her voice feels her baby leap and she is filled with the Spirit of God and declares that the mother of her Lord has come to visit. She declares, “You are blessed, because you believed that the Lord would do what He said.” In response to this, Mary declares the greatness and faithfulness of God. She flows like a river with the Word of God just like the prophets. I can just imagine her shaking her head and taking a deep breathe when she was done and saying, “wow!”

As time passes and the baby Jesus is born she has more opportunities to be amazed at the faithfulness of God. Imagine walking into the temple and having two people confirm again the greatness of this child. Imagine an angel telling you that a king was out to kill your child and sending you away to Egypt. With the way things are these days we get a little anxious if we lose track of a child in the mall or a store, and we have never had kings out to kill our children. No wonder they were frantically looking for Him when they found Him in the temple amazing the scholars. His response was that they should have known he would be at His Father’s house.

Again and again as Jesus grew up they watched and wondered. Though we do not know much from the Bible of his life between boyhood and ministry years, we do know that He grew closer to His father and had favor with men. The bottom line on all of this is that Mary was there from start to finish, and this should be our goal in our walk with God.

It is my desire and I am sure it is yours as well, to allow God to complete the good thing that He has begun. This can be easily accomplished by staying close to Him. God brings us all through difficult things and each one is proof of His faithfulness. Mary began with a difficult situation, but she saw God take care of it. She also watched as He took care of each subsequent situation right up until the death, resurrection, and ascension of Her Son. We took can take great comfort in this, knowing that God did not fail then and He will not fail now. He does all things perfectly.
