THE R'S OF SEEING

Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8 NKJV)

When we spoke before of seeing God, we noted that even the thought of actually seeing God causes a person to consider their ways. We also noted that as fearful a thought it might be, it was at the same time an amazing thing to imagine. This time I want to discuss what came to me as the 4 R’s of seeing.

The first R of seeing God is to recognize Him. How many things go on around us that we really do not recognize as God or His handy work? Those who deny the existence of God do not credit Him with anything. But those with a pure heart will recognize Him. This of course is partially because they will be looking for Him. Recognition increases as seeking increases!

The next R is response. Even those who are pure in heart and recognize God have a choice as to how they respond to God and to the things of God. Our response to God allows or disallows God to work in our lives. It is possible to recognize God and ignore Him. The Word of God is not something we can just take or leave. It is life to those who find it and health to all flesh. We cannot afford a ho hum response to any part of it.

The next R is reaction. How we react to the truth differs from our response because it implies action. We can recognize something as being from God and respond with a hearty amen; but the action we take is the icing on the cake. We can say we believe Him, and still do nothing with what He says.

The final R is receiving. The pure in heart will see God. Because we seek Him, we can recognize Him. The more we look and expect the more we see and recognize. If our response is positive, then our reaction will follow the course God has laid out for us. As a result of staying the course and allowing nothing to turn us back, we receive the truth of God’s Word and all of His benefits.

The heart that is pure looks forward to every revelation of God. The heart that is pure has confidence that in His presence fullness of Joy and pleasure forever more are not just words in a book but they are the manifestation of God.

From this we can see that Recognizing God produces a response which produces a corresponding action. The proper response and action brings us into the place where we receive the fullness of our salvation.

Purify my heart Lord. I recognize you as the source of life. My response is to agree with the truth. My reaction is to present myself to you as a living sacrifice. By doing this I expect to receive all that you have promised.
