THE SALVATION OF GOD
But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God. (Psalm 50:23 NLT)
Has it ever occurred to you that there is more to the salvation of God than you know? Have you discovered that the more you know the more you realize just how little you really know?
In Psalm 50, God starts by making it clear that He has called all humanity, and that He shines for all. (1,2) In verse 5, He says to bring His faithful people who have made covenant with Him by giving sacrifices. Then He tells them that the sacrifices are okay but He really does not need them. What He really wants is truth thanks. He wants them to trust Him. He assures them and us that if we will trust Him, He will rescue us and we will give Him glory.
God does not want us to pretend to obey Him. He does not want us to refuse to be corrected or to treat His laws like trash. He says, “When you see a thief, you help Him.” We wonder how that can be, but if we approve things that go against Gods laws aren’t we helping the thief?
We may think we get away with ignoring God’s will, but He says that just because He remains silent does not mean that He does not care. We are called to repent when we realize the errors of our ways.
All of this is part of God’s salvation. Realizing that God is calling is a beginning. Realizing that the God who calls us is the one true God who owns everything and can do all things, is part of it. Trusting Him and experiencing His power to rescue us in times of trouble gives us yet another glimpse. Realizing that we are not going to get away with pretending to follow God is yet another eye opener. When we see that we have strayed and understand that God will forgive if we repent, we experience yet another joy of salvation.
What really touches my heart is the fact that what God really likes is a thankful heart. He really wants us to appreciate who He is and what He does for us. I believe this is because He knows that a thankful heart is a heart that will keep following Him, and He wants to reveal His salvation to us in every aspect of our lives. Truly, it just keeps building.
Are there areas in your life where you are not experiencing the salvation of God? I know there are lots of places in mine. I also know that it is my own fault and that fixing it is as simple as trusting God and experiencing His rescue. Isn’t it just too sweet of God to fix things so that His blessing us brings Him glory? This should make it easy for us to desire to bring glory to God. Show us your salvation God!
