THE SON
Whoever has His Son has life, whoever does not have His Son does not have life(1John 5:12)
Early one morning as I sat seeking God, I looked out the window at a beautiful sunrise. When I turned back to read, I could not, because of the brightness still messing with my focus. I then closed my eyes and I could see that sun clearly in the black background. Within me I began to hear, “when we look to the Son of God regularly, His ways are what stay with us.” As I continued to sit with my eyes closed, of course the picture of the sun faded, and I heard, “but if we keep our eyes shut to the things of God, if we do not look to Him regularly, then the vision fades and so does our faith.”
Truly, if we have the Son of God, we have life. Without Him where would we be. To the world, to those without understanding, this truly is foolishness. But to those who have known Christ, this is clear as can be. We know that when we fail to keep that focus on the Lord, things begin to unravel in our lives. Often times if we have intentionally closed our eyes, we fail to realize what is happening. Thankfully God is faithful to make the effort to turn our eyes back to His Son. The Holy Spirit has quite a job keeping us all focused on truth.
When Jesus said, “Without Me you can do nothing.” Wow! Was He right on. It seems that daily I realize just how true that statement was. Without Him, we could never come to know Him. By His Spirit He draws us. He is also the one who works to complete the good work that He has begun in us. He is the one who protects us, offers us guidance, keeps us, heals us, delivers us, and well, He does it all.
Some would say, “then it is all His responsibility so He will find me when He wants to, and if He doesn’t then it must not have been meant to be.” This of course is not at all the way it works. Jesus came to seek and to save the lost. We were or are all in that category. The call is to who so ever will believe, so we have the opportunity to believe. He gave us a brain and an ability to make choices. It is our part to respond, and then respond some more.
Then it is up to us to grow in the grace and the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, until we come to the place where we realize, “Lord I can not do one thing without you.” Then we begin to call on Him for guidance in all things. We run to Him for help and for healing. We run to Him for peace, love, joy and our every need. Well if Christ is in us, why do we have to run to Him? Because that is how He set it up! We have all at one time or another simply lost our focus and kept right on going in a wrong direction even with Christ in us.
God says we must turn to Him. We must stop, look at what we are doing, call on the Lord and He will help us. The more dependent we become upon the Lord, the more free we become in this life. The more we turn to Him, the more we receive from Him and the more we have to give to others. Don’t let the vision fade.
