THE STANDARD IS SET
When He tasted the wine, he said, "It is finished." Then He bowed His head and died. (John 19:30 ERV)
Today, all over the world, Christians celebrate the resurrection of our Lord. Today the seal was put on the standard that was established before the creation of the world. God intended that we would follow Him, obey Him, love, and honor Him for all eternity. He planned for us to live by faith. When Jesus said it is finished, He spoke by faith. He was confident that today was coming. He is not only our savior, but He is our example in all things. He shows us how to live and what to expect from this Life that God has promised us.
It really makes no difference if everyone believes it or not, this is the standard upon which all eternity is based. For instance, gravity has always existed. It did not take an apple falling from a tree to make it true, but it was the means that Newton used to figure the law of gravity. The same is true of mathematics, science, medicine, and etc.
A child cannot go to school and declare that he does not like 2+2=4; that is the standard and that is how it is. If a person borrows money, they cannot dictate the terms; the terms are set for them.
So it is with the resurrection of our Lord. He is the standard. He always was and always will be. We were all created with a hunger for God that can only be satisfied by a relationship with Him. He established Jesus as the means by which the satisfaction can be achieved. No matter what people may say or do, ultimately we will all come to the conclusion that this is in fact true. And this is the truth that makes us free.
This is the only way to be free from the power of sin. It is the only way to erase guilt and shame. He is the only way and only name by which men and women must be saved! That is just the way it is.
Jesus came so that we could have life. Not just any life, but abundant life. An abundance of Jesus is better than all the possessions a person could acquire. An abundance of Jesus makes everything else, just everything else!
Our hearts long for more of Him, and until we come to know Him, we just keep thinking there has to be more to life. The truth is we are searching for life when we are feeling that.
If you know Jesus, then you know the standard and can share His truth with others who just do not know why they do not feel complete. If you think about it, you often encounter people who are in just this condition, so go ahead and let them know that there search if finished. You know how they can find the satisfaction they seek. Tell them!
