THE VALUE EFFECT
For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised. (1 Chronicles 16:25)
Can you live without God? How valuable is your relationship with God? God places a high value on you, your words, and your love for Him. Our answers to these questions do not change the greatness of God in any way, but they do effect the operation of the Kingdom of God in our lives.
Have you ever been guilty of treating God like a commodity? At certain times in certain situations He is very valuable to us and at other times He is hardly even a consideration. Some days we will trade our relationship with Him for little or nothing and other days He is our treasure. The truth is that some days what we need from Him is valuable and other days we do not think we need anything that He has. So basically the value we place on Him is determined by what He has rather than who He is.
Ouch! That is a harsh way to look at things isn’t it? Well, the only way to fix something is to get the proper perspective on what may be wrong. So we need to ask ourselves what value we place on God.
A song we sing declares that He is more precious than silver, more costly than gold, more beautiful than diamonds and that nothing we desire compares to Him. When we truly value God in that way, the effect on our life is revealed in direct proportion. Well, actually God works in multiples so He responds in the pressed down, shaken together, overflowing fashion.
When I left home, there was a box of baseball cards in our house that would be worth a lot of money if we could find them! Most people my age remember that they probably road their bikes with thousands of dollars flapping in the spokes. Of course we did not know that they would be valuable one day. In the same way, we often hear of someone buying something at a garage sale that turns out to be worth a fortune. It had no value to one person but to the one who was wise, it had great value.
When we place no value on God or a relationship with Him, is it any wonder that we fail to see any of God’s promises manifesting in our lives. At the same time we may watch and wonder why another person is experiencing such great things from God. Remember, the depth of our faith determines the height of our flight.
Do we place God on a shelf, waiting for a time when His value is greater? Is He in a box in the garage ready to be moved out? Is He kept in a convenient place so we can find Him in emergencies? Or, is He on our mind, in our heart, and continually on our lips, where His full value is being realized all the time. He loves to hear your voice. He listens for His word to perform it. So how valuable is God in your life?
