THE WHOLE PACKAGE

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.(Acts1:8)

I have a son who is in the United States Army. Recently, he had the opportunity to jump out of an airplane. Do you know I never once wondered how he would be able to do that? I simply assumed that they would provide him with everything that he needed for a successful jump. They prepared him, they equipped him, and when the time came he jumped and he landed safely. Praise the Lord! God brought this to my mind as I was speaking to Him about how He has equipped us, and how to make it work!

There are many things going on in the world and in the church, and God has prepared us for it all. However, we need to have the confidence in how God has equipped us in order for us to do what He has called us to do. As we said before, we simply need to believe that grace works, that God is, that God has, and that God will.

I doubt that anyone reading this wondered how in the world my son could jump out of an airplane, or thought he must know how to fly! You probably assumed that he would use a parachute and you assumed correctly. If I said that the army made him jump without a parachute you would not have believed me, or you would have been horrified. Someone who does not like our military might even take a story like that and try to discredit our great army just as some try to discredit the miracles of Jesus! Believe me, he was well trained and he had a good chute.

God pointed out to me that He would no more give us things to do without equipping us to do them than the army would take my son up in a plane and have him jump without the proper equipment. Yes I know that there can be equipment failures, but God does not fail. God is always faithful and His equipment always works.

When Jesus told them they would receive power and be witnesses to Him; that was exactly what He meant. He did not list all that they would do. He simply assured them that they would be equipped for whatever might provide the opportunity to reveal Him. What He did, they would do, and that would confirm that what He said while He was on the earth was true.

God has equipped us. He has provided everything we need in Christ Jesus. Our part is to have the confidence in Him and to walk in the truth. When a person stands in the plane with all the equipment, they have to make a choice based on what they have learned, the equipment they possess, and the confidence they have in succeeding. When my son tells me it was a good jump, it is a witness to his training and his ability. Jesus said that we would be witnesses of Him. So I have to ask myself, has anyone around me had the opportunity to see Jesus lately or do I have the equipment in storage? How about you? Be prepared to jump!
