THE WORD
In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and He was God.(John 1:1 NLT)
As we continue with beginnings, I think it is important that we realize the role “The Word,” and our words play as we walk along the path of life. Jesus is the living Word of God and His guidance is key to all beginnings and endings. In a similar sense, our words have a direct effect on our lives and the plans that God has for our lives.
It is interesting to note, that very few in the religious realm will take exception to negative confession, but the minute you start emphasizing the need for positive words, people will get up in arms. Does that make sense? I mean really, we serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords and yet we are more comfortable with negative and doubtful speech than we are with speaking positive words over our lives. Is it really so bad to declare that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me? After all, that is the Word of God.
The beginning of all that we know came about by the Word of God. And so it is that things in our lives are directed by the words that we speak. We can begin a failure simply by declaring that we cannot do something. We can stop the very plans that God has for our life simply by refusing to believe what God has said. For instance, you may have a need and you are reminded that, “God shall supply all of your needs according to His riches in glory.” How you respond to this truth will have a direct effect on the result. If your declaration is that it will never happen, then more than likely it never will, because you will not take the steps that God directs in order for it to happen. On the other hand if the Word of God sparks your faith and you declare your trust in God no matter how things may look, you have just begun on the road to receiving the fulfillment of God’s promise.
The truth is, we have new beginnings every day. We wake up and we make a declaration about the day. How many times have you heard someone say they are doing okay considering it is Monday, or it is a typical Monday? Sad to say that many people plan at least 52 marginal to bad days per year! God, knowing what we are like, suggested that we try, “This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be gland in it.” Now doesn’t that sound like a better beginning?
So let’s begin our look at beginnings with an awareness of the role our words play in steering us to victory or to defeat. I am sure that many of you remember the “Prayer of Jabez.” The small book, written about an obscure little prayer in the Bible, where a man rose up and said, “Oh Lord that you would bless me indeed!” What a declaration from someone with no position or reason to expect that God would do such a thing for him except that he wanted a change and saw God as the best place to go with his request. And the Bible tells us that God honored that request.
No doubt this is nothing new to many or most of you, but if we are going to look at beginnings, we need to start at the beginning. So I pray that we will all be blessed of God in a way that causes us to hear more clearly the very words that we say and that we will be quick to correct the ones that do not line up with His will and His word. It will change everything and make our beginnings head in successful directions.
