THE WORD OF HIS GRACE
Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting sings and wonders to be done by their hands. (Acts 14:3)
One thing we can be sure of, and that is that God is true to His word. No matter how much people like to try and complicate it, in the end, it is the simplicity of it that messes with the natural mind.
When it comes to salvation people think it can’t be that simple. Others think it is not necessary at all to be born again because if God is love no one should go to hell. Once people come to the understanding of salvation it is a struggle to accept that the rest of the gospel could be so simple. It is no wonder that Paul was concerned that people would lose the simplicity of Christ. He is the anointed one and He has passed on the anointing. He asked the Father and the Father sent the Holy Spirit and He is busy about the Fathers business everywhere that people will allow Him to work.
I believe one of the things that Jesus came to do on His way to the cross was to correct misconceptions that people had concerning God. Everyone based their opinion of God on what Moses wrote about the fiery mountain rather than what God told Abraham. People still were fearful of God and did not want to come near Him. They wanted a priest to the take the risk. For some reason they could never hold on to the idea that God always had one plan for people who would love and trust Him and that was to bless them and make them a blessing. So when Jesus came and started doing miracles, blessing people, forgiving their sins, and casting out demons, the old wine skins could not hold it. They wanted to keep God unapproachable, except for the priests of course.
Jesus told them they had the wrong picture of His Father and He came to set the record straight. He went so far as to tell them that their father was the devil. Obviously they did not like what He had to say or what He did, but those who understood Jesus were very happy with the new plan. It was this new plan that and new image that the disciples were preaching about everywhere.
This was the word of His grace. This was the news of God’s special favor and blessing. The best part of this news was that it was for everyone and there was no limit to what God could and would do for them. No matter how impossible it sounded, God just confirmed everything they said by granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
Can’t you just imagine a crowd of people and someone steps out with a challenge for what they have just said? Like a blind man stepping out and saying, “if He can restore sight to the blind let’s see Him heal me,” and instantly God responds and the man can see. Nothing is impossible for God. It is just that simple. This is the word of His grace and if we can believe it, all things are possible to them that believe. That is the truth.
