THINGS TO COME
Ask of Me things to come concerning My sons... (Isaiah 45:11 NKJ)
It is so comforting to know that God cares and that God is able. There really is no problem so great that God cannot handle it. So why do we worry? Why do we ring our hands and agonize over things we cannot control? God asks only that we remain faithful. He tells us just to trust Him. Why is it so hard to just do that?
Could it be that we have failed to develop or lost that child like faith? Would it really be so bad if we simply depended upon God to do what He says? There are so many things that we see as impossible situations. Have we forgotten that there was a time when we were impossible? Some people may appear to be impossibly religious, corrupt, deceived, or evil; what makes them more impossible than you. If this statement doesn’t make you stop and think, then it may just be that you are still impossible!
The worse things look, the more certain we must be that God can handle it. He can do anything! He tells us to ask Him about things to come. It may be that all He will say is “Do not worry.” then rejoice and do not worry.
As I was reading in Isaiah where God told the people all the good things that He was going to do and how He was going to do it through someone they had never heard of, I laughed as God said, “he shall perform my pleasure.” God goes on to say that Cyrus does not even know Him but he is going to bless God’s people until everyone knows that He is the Lord and that there is no other God like Him.
One reason I laughed was because I could imagine God declaring long before I ever knew Him that one day I would desire to do only His pleasure. There are some to this day who knew me before I met the Lord who have a hard time believing it is true. To be honest it never ceases to amaze me and try as I may I have never figured out how God did it. I am just glad that He did.
I know that there are times when it is hard to simply allow God’s word to satisfy our doubts and fears. It is at those times that we must remember how His word has already worked throughout history and in our own lives as well. As we allow these truths to sink in, it brings us to a place where we can enter back into that rest that He promises.
Don’t run around in despair like the sky is falling. Ask God about things to come and trust Him to tell you your part. Then do it; even if all He tells you is to trust Him. We have entered a time in our nation where those who know God must pray according to His word and trust Him. If we will, He will use us to show the world that He is God and that there no other like Him. What a great time to be in the Kingdom of God. Rejoice in the Lord for the things to come.
