THINKING OF YOU
As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord is thinking about me right now. (Ps. 40:17 NLT)
Have you ever taken the time to really consider the fact that the Lord is always thinking about you. No matter where you are, no matter what you are doing or have done, the Lord is thinking about you. Psalm 139 tells us that no matter we go He is there. We can never escape His presence.
Unfortunately, many people, including many Christians, see this mostly as God watching to catch us doing something bad. Let’s face it He would not have to watch all that closely to see us falling short of the glory of God. Now what if we were to change our thinking about this and just for a moment consider that He might be fondly watching over us as He is thinking about us all the time.
Then let’s consider the fact that God tells us that He knows the thoughts that He has for us and that those thoughts are for good and not for evil! Yes, God is thinking of us all the time. I know it is hard for many to comprehend, but the truth is that when He is thinking of us, He is thinking of ways to help us not to hurt us. We all know that God is not a machine who has no feelings. He tells us clearly that He cares about us. Still, I think we have a hard time imagining Him gazing into the sky and fondly thinking about us.
When you get caught up thinking about someone, what are your thoughts like. Let’s forget those people that you don’t like for right now and consider how you think about people you are fond of! Those other thoughts are bitter thoughts that God can help us overcome. So for now, let’s limit ourselves to those whom we desire good things for. When we think of these people, we don’t sit around and hope things go badly for them. At least we should not! Christians really need to get over the idea of praying that God will teach people lessons the hard way. We should be thinking of people the way God does.
So, consider your best day thinking about someone who is at the top of your list for good things. Even if they have done something wrong, you just want things to be good for them. As a husband, father, and pastor, I strive to feel this way about the people God has blessed me to serve. I want good things for them. I try to imagine ways to help them. I often agonize over things that I think will hurt them. I don’t say, “Oh boy God here is your chance to really get them!” If I can think good thoughts, how much more does God think that way? May I add that I pray God will help me to do this all better?
What about people we love who do not know God. All we want is for them to know the joy we know. Well, why shouldn’t we feel the same about everyone who does not know God. God thinks about them too and He wants us to feel the way He does. I pray that you are as comforted as I am as you consider that God is thinking of you and that His thoughts are loving and kind. He loves us too much to spend all His time concentrating on our failures; He works on turning them into victories.
