TIME TO GO
He took with Him Mary, his fiancée, who was now obviously pregnant. (Luke 2:5 NLT)
Three words that have varying effects in our lives; time to go! Sometimes it is just what we have been waiting for. Sometimes we are not ready for it. Sometimes we just do not want to go. Sometimes the response is do we have to go?
When it was time for the prophecy to be fulfilled, the word in heaven was, “Time to go.” The angel had delivered the message and it was just the right time; the time heaven had been waiting for.
It was certainly not convenient for Mary or Joseph, but the Angel made it acceptable for the most part. But now, a road trip with Mary being about to give birth! Any couple in this situation knows this was not convenient, but Mary and Joseph had no choice. So Joseph loaded up the donkey and off they went.
There are many things in our life that are not necessarily convenient. Some of these we can put off or just forget about if we want. Some we simply must go through with. There is one thing that makes all things better and that is a relationship with Jesus.
We have many times in our lives when it is time to go to Jesus, but we may well put those off. We may find what we think is a better way. We shake off Holy Spirit who is drawing us and move on until the next time. Of all things, we are fooled into thinking that God will inconvenience our lives.
There are most certainly times with Christ in our lives when it seems inconvenient to follow Him, but it always turns out to be the just the right thing at just the right time. God is always good!
At times He leads us through things; at other times He takes us around or over, but He is always with us.
Just as the birth of Christ is about Christ, so is our life with God, about God. It cannot be about what He can do for us; He has already done plenty. We just need to continue to go to Him.
It was no easy journey for Mary and Joseph, but they made it. Jesus told us that life would not necessarily be an easy journey but He has it handled. I found a note from a year ago where God told me to take a breath! He said, “I am quieting your soul. Give me control.” I think it had an even stronger effect today than a year ago. When it is time to go remember He is with you.
