TO DO GOD'S WILL

Then He added, "Look, I have come to do your will." (Hebrews 10:9a NLT)

As we begin a new year, I feel a need to once again commit myself to doing God’s will. In Romans we are told to present ourselves as living sacrifices unto God. We are reminded not to conform to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We can then prove what is the perfect will of God. Hebrews 10:10 says that God wants us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all time. So if this is what God wants, then this is what God has done. That being the case, we should be transformed by this truth. It is not so much what we can do or need to do. God tells us that if we will simply present ourselves to Him, He can and will do the rest.

God tells us that if we will confess our sins, He will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This is something we must do and when we do our part, God does His. Each of us must do our part. You cannot do my part for me. I cannot do your part for you. Our trust is in God’s performance not in our own. If you submit yourself to God, then I say God is doing something in your life. And that is all I need to say. So often in the body of Christ we forget that God is able and so we look at one another and only see what we feel God is not doing rather than trusting that God knows what He is doing. May God help us all to stop that.

In Zechariah 8:17 the Lord says that we need to stop the habit of swearing to things that are false. It occurs to me that we often say things like, “I can’t do this.” Or we say God did something bad, or that He has forgotten us etc. These are not true statements. I am challenged to work on speaking only the truth according to what God says in His word. I will need a great deal of help from the Holy Spirit to accomplish this, but I am confident that God is able to do it.

God’s plan for you and for me is to make us holy by the sacrifice of Jesus. He paid a great price to accomplish this and He is going to get it done. We must present ourselves to God with confidence that He is accomplishing His will. We must also pray for those who do not know Jesus so that they too will come to Him.

Have you thought much about the fact that all the miracles God did in the Old Testament were only shadows of all that He promises through Christ. That means that they may seem like pretty great things, but they were nothing in comparison to the real thing of the New Covenant that God made with us.

Jesus came according to God’s plan. He lived and died according to God’s plan. He was raised from the dead according to God’s plan, and He accomplished all that was necessary for God’s will to be done in our lives. Let’s submit ourselves to that truth and settle for no less that God’s perfect will for our lives. Settle it now and declare, “I will walk in the perfect will of God for my life, and I will trust Him to reveal it to me day by day.”
