TREASURE
The kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field and to get the treasure too! (Matthew 13:44 NLT)
What can we say about the kingdom of God? It is like the oil well you wish was in your back yard. It is like winning the lottery that so many people think will make life better. It is like digging in your garden and discovering a vein of gold. Truly the kingdom of God is a treasure and just like all treasure, there are those who are treasure hunters and there are those who are not.
Personally, until I came to know Christ, I was not much of a treasure hunter. I never had a desire to go into the mountains and stake a claim, or go to sea looking for sunken treasure. I knew if I worked hard and saved my money I could get what I wanted and if I wanted something more I just needed to work harder. The only problem was that something was missing and I did not know what it was. When I went to do what I thought I always wanted to do, write and perform music, I found that the thing I thought would make me the happiest only made me realize how much there had to be something more. It was at that point that God opened my eyes so that I at least knew where to start looking. Oh the peace that flooded my soul when Jesus came into my life.
I did not realize it then, but this morning I believe God revealed to me that it was nearly twenty years ago that I came to understand what it is that drives treasure hunters. They just have to search and that is how it has been for me. I have been convinced that no matter what, there is more treasure in Jesus. I know that there is another storehouse of kingdom riches just waiting to be discovered.
Consequently, that has been the focus of what God has called me to minister to others. The message has always been one that in one way or another encourages people to search for the treasure that is theirs in the kingdom of God. What I have found out is that even in the body of Christ there is an absence of treasure hunters. There are those who just don’t want to take the risk of buying the field even if there is a guarantee of treasure. They prefer to just hold what they have and watch as others seek after the treasure. Often times they say they wish they could do that but it is just not the way they are. The truth is God has given us all a measure of faith, which includes the desire to seek the treasure of the kingdom. As always, we make the choice whether we will hunt or not.
It is in this treasure that we find the gifts and wisdom that can do more for us than finding a pot of Gold. God can show you where all the gold is. God will give you wisdom that could be the next great invention. The truth is, we have no idea what all the Kingdom of God contains for us and we never will if don’t go after it. Be a treasure hunter. You will not be disappointed. That is a guarantee God makes in His Word.
