TROUBLING WORDS
They were upset because of what Peter and John were teaching the people. (Acts 4:2a ERV)
Isn’t it strange how good news can make people mad? The truth troubled the leaders then and it still troubles people today. We have in our position troubling words for troubled times, and it is not that everyone is going to hell! Then as now, the devil does everything he possibly can to crush the truth or at least veil it, but, it is pretty hard to hide something as miraculous as lame man being healed and this lame man was healed as a direct result of the truth that people would rise from the death. You cannot separate the message from the results!
You can be sure that the enemy will do everything he can to arrest you and render you helpless and hopeless in order to keep you from living and speaking the truth. Notice, living comes before speaking. We must live like we believe. As we live like we believe we will speak what we experience. God has promised us that we will in fact experience the truth that we walk in. What we believe we also speak and God has promised to strengthen us by confirming His word.
Even though they put Peter and John in jail, they could not stop more than 5000 from believing. When they pressed them concerning the miracle they made it clear that that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit; the name, the power, and the authority of God were the source of all the good things going on. In the same way, we too will be pressed by friends, enemies, circumstances, and life in general as the devil does his best to keep us from walking in the truth and light that we have. Do not be deceived or fearful. Remember that in that same Name of Jesus, power and authority flow from you.
Peter pointed out from scripture that they had been deceived and missed the corner stone, but even so, Jesus was still willing to save them. Don’t be discouraged if you find yourself trapped or deceived in the midst of a trial, recover and call on the name of Jesus. Remember Jesus once told Peter that he was going to crumble, but also told him he would recover and what to do when he did.
The authorities noted that these men were not afraid to speak, and could only attribute this to the fact they had been with Jesus. There is no way to overemphasize the importance of time with Jesus. We all know that we need constant fellowship with him. The enemy tries to make this sound impossible, but it is the most natural thing in the world. Think about it. If you go to an amusement park with friends, even if you are not right together, you stay in touch. If one goes on a ride the first thing they do in this day in this age is call or text the other to tell them how great or not so great it was. We do not even need a phone to talk to Jesus. It is just that simple, so stay in touch and you will continue to be trouble to the devil.
People may try to ignore what God does, but it is pretty tough to deny when He does a miracle. He does great things all the time and it is up to us to give Him the glory. The more glory we give Him the more stories we will have to tell. He accompanies His word with signs and wonders. Do not be afraid to live like He is your Father and you are His child.
