TRUE IN HIM AND YOU
Again a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in Him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. (1John 2:8 KJV)
It is true. The darkness is past! This does not mean that there is no more darkness, only that we now have a choice because the true light of the gospel of Jesus Christ is shining. If these things were not true, there would not be so much resistance to them!
Those who say they have the light and still hate and kill are in the worst kind of darkness. Those who try to justify those who do such things are also in darkness. It is always so amazing when the light breaks through and we realize the truth was right there all the time. It is like looking and looking for something and then suddenly you remember exactly where you put it. It is like knowing that you know an answer to something but you just cannot seem to get it to come out and then suddenly there it is.
Have you ever found yourself trying to remember someone’s name and try as you may it is just gone from you memory? When this happens to me I start through the alphabet trying to find it. Sometimes it just does not come and other times I find it and it was so obvious and it is such a relief to be able to say it. Just because I could not say it right away did not mean I did not know it or that the person does not really exist! If we forget someone’s name we don’t just declare we never did know it. We find a way to get it to the surface, even if we have to ask someone else.
Therefore, when the Word of God says that it is just as true in us as it is in Christ, we must hold on to that fact. There are all sorts of things around us that the enemy does his best to use in order to distract and discourage us, but we need to stand confident that these things are just his darkness hiding what is right there ready to manifest.
As I thought about this, I was reminded of Jesus’ first miracle. When His mother came to Him to inform Him that they were out of wine and Jesus asked her what this had to do with Him, it may have been the first time in His life that He did not instantly comply with what His mother wanted. He was now on a different timetable and even His mother could not come before the timing of God. However, His mother knew him well enough to not loose heart. She did not just walk off in disgust or get mad about it. She told the servants to do whatever Jesus said they should do. She must have felt that it was a God-led idea so she was not going to get discouraged just because her timing was different from God’s. We too must have this kind of confidence in God and in our savior Jesus Christ.
The Word that is true in Him is just as true in us. Let that light shine through. The days of darkness are past. We do not need to fear even if all seems dark. Remember that the light is always shining burning its way through the clouds. Jesus has not forgotten about you. Jesus is not neglecting you. He never fails! It is true in Him and it is all for you.
