TRUST
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. (Psalm 118:8 NKJV)
If we are going to walk in the Spirit, we are going to have to trust Him. There is a way that seems right to man’s way of thinking, but the end of it is destruction. It does not matter how it may look along the way, God’s way is the only way to go. If we align our thinking with God’s thinking we are promised great success. So we must trust in the Lord above everyone and everything else!
So let’s use one more little music picture to illustrate this. When we looked at the conductor, we saw that He is the one who brings the symphony together. Now let’s just say that all the players have practiced a certain piece of music a certain way and they are all ready to do it that way and the conductor comes with a new arrangement; a new way to play the song. Well of course this would be a shock, but if everyone trusts the conductor and just does it his way, it will be just as amazing if not more so because they were able to adjust and still perform.
On the other hand, if someone decides they are just going to do it the way they always have no matter what the conductor says, they are going to mess up the whole presentation. Not only will they look foolish, but they will have hurt everyone else involved. People will say it was a shame that it happened that way. Some will blame the conductor for changing things in the first place. People will not want to trust the one who refused to follow instructions and others will decide that they will never attempt a different arrangement again. There may also be some people who came to the music all for the first time that may never come back because it was such a terrible performance.
Guess what? This happens in the body of Christ on a regular basis. There are always those people who refuse to trust that the Lord might do something in a different way than they are prepared for even though it is easy to see that Jesus Himself did not always do everything the same way every time. Can you imagine what He must have thought when He was getting ready to heal the blind man and the conductor said, “Let’s put some dirt and spit on his eyes this time?” Jesus chose to trust the conductor and the man was healed.
There are also those who not only refuse to trust anything new, but they get busy complaining to others about it rather than talking to the conductor to see who really is messed up. They tell others to stay away from concerts like that. Some people who actually enjoyed it anyway may be afraid to go back there because of what someone might say. I think you get the picture. And all of this happens as a result of people not trusting in the Lord and His way of doing things. If we want to make beautiful music and glorify God we need to trust the Lord. It does not matter how prepared we think we are if we stop trusting Him. You can memorize the whole bible and think you know all there is to know, but if you don’t trust the conductor trouble awaits!
