TRUST IN THE LORD
Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. (Psalm 37:3 NLT)
I think it is safe to say that mothers know best about trusting in the Lord. Mothers would know what it is like not trusting and what it is like trusting. Mothers have lots of opportunities to fear and to rejoice. Mothers know how much easier things are when we trust in the Lord. Mothers are honored by God and should be honored by all.
Just as a mother must trust for the birth, safety, and future of the seed that is growing in her, so must we all trust in the Lord for all the seeds of life that God gives us. There is no book that can explain how to trust in the Lord. Trust is something that we do or we do not do. Trusting God is not a part time thing. While it may and should be something that we grow stronger in, it is always a choice. When we choose to trust, we choose life.
God speaks of the farmer who plants the seeds and trusts that they will grow. The plants are there before we see them. For a mother, the baby is in the seed before we see it. In the same way, the promises of God are real before we ever see the harvest of those promises.
I have had people ask “How can I trust in the Lord?” I say, “How can we not.” I know about life giving no attention to God and trusting myself or what people can do. Until we experience the difference God makes, we do not know any better. However, once we experience Him, the difference is obvious.
It is like the mother giving birth. The labor and pain involved seem to dissolve as the love of the child takes over. There is no doubt that faith can be a fight. We are at war and the labor is often intense. Trusting the Lord will always lead to the birth of His promises and peace. His love inspires our love, and together with God…it is well.
Scriptures tell us to set our hearts to seek the Lord. This is because seeking is like trusting. We seek those things that benefit us. Seeking the Lord creates a safe atmosphere. Our hearts begin to rest in Him and we sense the prosperity that God promises.
When a mother is filled with fear, trust can and will bring peace. When Jesus appeared to His followers as they were filled with fear after His crucifixion, He said peace be with you. He had told them often to believe and trust in God and to believe and trust in Him. This produces peace.
If we will seek until the peace comes we will understand the benefits of trusting God. The storms may well keep stirring, but as we trust we experience the safe place. Once we were at a park and the sirens went off and we had to take refuge in the storm shelter. Previous to that, my son had developed a fear of tornados. As we sat in the shelter safe from the storm we talked about how God keeps us safe. When we emerged from the shelter, we saw the damage that the storm had done but we were fine. To this day he loves storms. The Lord is our shelter. We can trust Him.
God loves when we trust Him. That is why He promises rewards. As a mother trusts, she is rewarded with the love of the child. May we all enjoy the Love and reward of the Lord as we trust Him.
