TRUSTING
So trust in the Lord and do good. Live on your land and be dependable. Enjoy serving the Lord and he will give you whatever you ask for. Depend on the Lord. Trust in him, and he will help you. (Psalm 37:2-5 ERV)
Believing, doing, praying, and trusting; these are all frequently used words in our walk of faith. Which is most important? Well of course, we must believe that God exists in order to please Him, so that is the first step into the kingdom of God and it is something that we must keep doing. We are also told that we should always pray and of course we must pray, believing. If we believe, our believing will lead to doing. Can we do any of this consistently without trusting?
I used to say I seldom had dreams, but of late, I seem to be having more and more, so this time I found myself standing in line at what looked like a ticket counter. There was only a small opening and I really could not see what or who was behind it, nor did I know for sure why I was in the line. I only know that as I moved closer my anxiety was increasing. Then it was my turn and I felt panicked because I did not know what I was there for, and that was the end of it.
What I felt was so real it woke me, but I had no idea what it was about. I only knew it was about something. So I got out of bed and went to talk with God about it. As usual, I began by praying in the Spirit. When we do not know what to pray, we have Him to help!
I realized as I prayed that in the dream I was coming to a spot to ask for something and felt the panic because I did not know what to ask for, but that since I was there I must have something specific or I should not be in line.
With that understanding, I talked to God about the fact that I mostly just trust Him to take care of things. When it comes to praying for others, I have no problem praying for their needs, because they have specific requests, but for myself I guess I mostly operate under the, “seek first the Kingdom of God” premise.
Obviously, when there is something specific, we need to be specific and God’s Word is full of foundations to build the prayer on. The thing that I keep feeling is that without trust, nothing will hold together. It is like God’s super glue.
I think many people believe God exists, but they have very little trust in Him to be and do what He says He will do and who He really is. I do not want to offend anyone with this statement, but think about it. How much we trust Him reveals how much we really believe Him. I also know that we all pray without believing at times. This should not be! If we do not believe, then we are being double minded and can receive nothing from God. And of course we can do all sorts of things and be guilty of trying to do enough, simply because we do not trust that trusting and believing are what God wants from us. So don’t panic, trust! Blessed are they who put their trust in the Lord.
