TRUTH BUILDS FAITH

People are declared righteous because of their faith, not because of their work. (Romans 4:4)

Do you believe God? This is a big question. Some folks do not even believe He exists. Others believe He might exist, but have no idea of the importance of believing in Him. Others believe very strongly that He exists but are not really aware of the personal relationship that God desires with everyone. There are also those who believe He exists, are strong supporters of the need for the new birth, and even in the power of the Holy Spirit, but are not certain how much we should expect from God. Well, there are other descriptions of different positions in the walk of faith, but this gives the general picture.

Still the thing we need to consider is whether or not we believe God. All of the examples above are related to different things that people believe and not necessarily to what God has actually said. People often argue over their particular belief about God, when the only thing that really matters is what God actually says.

His Word is really very clear if only we can wipe away the fog that distorts our views. For instance, people have spent years and years and books have been written about what is the greatest sin. It seems to me that the sin of unbelief was the one that kept Israel out of the Promised Land and it is the same on that keeps people out of the kingdom of God. What sin could be bigger? Yet there are those who get so caught up in doctrine that you would think the biggest sin is not living by their rules.

Jesus said, “You believe in God, believe also in Me.” Believing the truth, guarding the truth, and walking in the truth produces the results God has promised and this is what builds our faith.

It is not what we believe as much as it is who we believe that places us in the position to receive the promises of God. Abraham believed God and because He did, God counted him as righteous. God never intended that a relationship with Him should be difficult or confusing. He said if you seek me you will find me. He said if you will call me I will answer. He said come and I will give you rest. He said He would bless us because when people saw it, it would bring Him glory.

Do you believe that God wants to bring Himself glory by showing you favor? That is what He told Abraham, and that is what He tells us. Not only will he bless you and me, but also all the nations can be blessed if we will just believe God and desire that He do it. I have to say that I am certain that my own failure to believe God has cost me His perfect will on many occasions. It is my prayer that I will never again block His will.
