Do you remember the song from years ago that talked of times and seasons and in the song there was the continual reminder to turn, turn, turn? There is truly a time for everything. We are all born, and we all die. In between those two events, there is a lot that can and does go on. There are many twists and turns in each person’s lifetime and the choices that we make have an everlasting affect on each of our lives.

It is true that the choices others make can also play a part, but then again we have our own choices that can counteract those. Just because a parent chooses one route in life, that does not necessarily have to affect the life of the child forever. There is always an opportunity to turn or to change. Of course the choices we make can be for the better or for the worse, so it is important to pay attention.

In this passage of scripture, Paul tells the people to turn from useless things to the living God who made heaven and earth and all things. The useless things in this case were the idols that they sacrificed to. Anything that takes away from the living God and His kingdom is useless.

I am well aware that there are people who think that the idea of worshipping the living God is useless, but an open observation of their lives and the fruit of that kind of thinking, confirms just how useless it is.

An example of one useless thing that is in the news and attacks our lives regularly is fear. There are people who become so paralyzed by fear that they will not leave their home because they might get sick or hurt or any of a number of other fear thoughts that control them. That is a useless thing that the living God can easily fix.

A big fear today is that the world economy is going to collapse. People would be wise to turn from that fear, and turn to the living God. Then instead of depending on what the media says and the way the natural eye sees things and falling into that fear, they will stand knowing that the grass may wither and the money fail, but the word of God will go on forever. I know as well as anyone that money is necessary. I also know that God made all the things that produce the money! Faith will cancel fear and release a person to produce rather that stand petrified!

The list of useless things that attempt to keep us from God is long. The solution for everyone is the same. Turn from the useless things and seek God! He never fails. Remember, when God’s people humble themselves and pray, He says He will heal the land. Lord, heal our land and turn the hearts of the people to You. That is a turn that will have amazing results.
